CHARACTERISTICS
-
Low flammability
-
High weather resistance
-
Lightweight, coming in a wide variety of colours, textures, transparencies, and thicknesses
-
Highly versatile and great for prototyping, POS displays, signage, awards, DIY/home decor, and electronic housing
-
A great alternative to glass and easy to clean
-
High UV light resistance
DISADVANTAGES
-
Not fire resistant and food grade applications are not advised
-
Low abrasion resistance
-
Low impact resistance - dependent on material thickness
-
Difficult to repair
CAST ACRYLIC VS. EXTRUDED ACRYLIC
-
Cast acrylic is formed in a glass mold while submerged in warm water vs. extruded acrylic is pushed through a form to get its shape
-
Cast acrylic has a frosted/almost neon surface when engraved while extruded acrylic looks more translucent/muted
-
Extruded acrylic is more scratch resilient than cast acrylic
-
Cast acrylic offers better surface finish, optical clarity and wide variety of colours
-
Extruded is better for its thermoformable properties, more dimensionally stable and is more cost effective but carries less variety of colours
